Mirrors and Photographs

So I had this idea this morning in the shower - and naturally thought I should share it on the internet with the world

Its more of a setting/concept, and it's based around a world where mirrors are windows or doors to other places, and where photographs become links to that moment in time (like a portal type thingy).
Not sure when or where this story should be set (or even who around), but I like the idea of a victorian/early photography era, where the photos only go back a year max - just to set a boundary.

I think it leaves open a chance for some intricate storylines - but I don't have one! :'D

That's actually such a cool idea! I bet you could really go inception on people with a concept like that! Would be cool if there were only a certain amount of people that knew about it and kept photo's to specific places or something

So maybe a kind of expedition group, or like a rebel movement against something? (then it could become quite a dark and dystopian setting?)
What I love about this concept is that there's so many possibilities that it could go down

Yes exactly! Maybe they're stolen something or rescued someone and they are trying to keep it safe by running through these portals, or something similar.

Yes indeed, we all seem to want to do these dystopian settings, so much gritty-ness

Ah - I like the rescue idea
Maybe a photograph exists where the background contains the split second before an incident happens (like a car crash or something fatal). So naturally they save this person and somehow the consequences catch up with them and they are forced to go on the run...

Ooh i like the idea that some portals are powerful enough to hold specific times, that's cool!!
And yeah maybe they save the important person, but someone who was planning on their death isn't very happy about it.
